I dont remember exactly where it was and tried to find it when I returned there for a high school reunion 2013. I didnt grow up there and only went to NB Broughton High school for my junior and senior years. I had no idea about the history and wish I had known more when I saw it. We went inside and I dont remember seeing much but large rooms that was similar to a school.
I didnt see any “ghosts” or hear anything unearthly but it sounds like the same place I saw back then, from your article. I mainly wanted to help a little with the timeline. The building was standing and you could go inside at that time, so it had to have been torn down later.
Thank you for such an informative piece.
However, i DID grow up in Elizabeth City NC and there was a local legend about the “four mile desert and seven bridges”.
I went there with a boyfriend because I had heard there was a light and I was NOT disappointed. I couldn’t believe my eyes and still see it clearly in my brain.
I dont know the story behind it and only counted 6 bridges. Apparently the seventh was on a small off road and supposedly you could hear a baby crying. We didnt go there but I thought it was an interesting sidebar.
